Workplace Discrimination Employees with Menstrual and Menopausal-Related Conditions

Weill Cornell Medicine supports legislation (A.5436B) requiring employers to provide reasonable accommodations for employees with menstrual-related, perimenopausal-related, and menopausal-related conditions in New York State. The legislation would help ensure that employees experiencing these conditions are protected from workplace discrimination and are made aware of their rights.

This legislation would strengthen New York’s labor laws to explicitly bar employers from discriminating against employees experiencing menstrual or menopausal conditions and provide employees with clear, accessible information about their rights. By requiring employers to distribute informational materials and conspicuously post notices of employee rights, the bill ensures that workers are empowered to seek and obtain the accommodations they need to remain productive and healthy in the workplace.
